HEATHER AND TOM... A LOOK BACK (and meeting THE BECKER)
This is a wedding I did back in 2oo3. Not a big wedding for me, a few bouquets and a few flowers here and there. The ceremony was done on the beach in Corona and the reception was on the cliffs in Laguna Beach at a friends home. It was a small intimate wedding of one of my sisters best friends Heather. A family affair for me, with my sister as the Maid of Honor, my brother in law as the Officiant, my son played the guitar and my husband, mom and other sister helping out with the flowers and set up.
But none of that is why this wedding stands out to me, this wedding changed how I looked at my business and how important the quality of the images used in my business were. This wedding is where I met BECKER... he had gone to the same high school as Heather and other than that I am not sure of their connection... maybe he had a crush, I am pretty sure he is younger and Heather IS GORGEOUS. ;-) Anyways....
I had been designing weddings for a little over 10 years now and my portfolio consisted of only the photos I had taken myself. These were OK at best, to awful, to none at all. I was not trained or prepared to be a photographer (and usually wiped out and wanted to go home by the time the ceremony happened). So I really only took the pics for my own sake. Rarely after a wedding did I ever even see the professional pictures from my Brides wedding day. I never really made the effort to meet the photographer or to find out contact info and what his policy was to getting pictures from him. And I would go on this way for awhile...
This wedding wasn't any different, I had my camera and took my own pictures, I was introduced to Becker merely as a courtesy of Heather. As the reception went on, I went upstairs to change my nephew's diaper and sitting on a chair in the corner was Becker, quickly, but with such attention to detail, putting together a same day slideshow. I had never seen that at a wedding EVER. And on top of that the images were amazing! I was instantly a fan and asked for his card. Not really knowing what I would do with it, but if a bride ever asked me about a photographer I was going to tell them about him. And I would get to refer him and work with him a couple more times... never really meeting him again.
Since websites and blogs have become the norm and not the exception... there are what I like to call lots of mini Beckers out there now... And there are some amazing mini Beckers and I have worked with them and love them. But he is always just one step ahead.... and he knows it ;-) But he shares of his knowledge and talent. And every Bride I have ever seen shot by him is Beautiful! If you have a chance go check out his blog. www.thebecker.com As for me I now make the effort to get the professional images from the photographer... they are ALWAYS better than mine. And they just make me look good! If your a bride, research your photographer, you really do get what you pay for. There some other amazing photographers on my website and if you want to know why I love each of them, give me a call.
So enjoy the photos by Becker of the lovely Tom and Heather
